Thailand's prime minister said that the government has allowed a project translating Wikipedia's contents into Thai language by machine translation. The project was also given the budget about 10.7 million baht.
We can consider many issues:
- Not many details reveal about the private company which has been assigned,
- Nothing guarantees that the budget will be used effectively or no curruption,
- The machine translation is in fact not quite correct among languages, somewhat bad in case of Thai language,
- The translated content will be posted on other web site rather than Wikipedia,
- Wikipedia will be more chaos because readers may copy back and forth across the project.
However, if we look good in a sense, this will develop greater efficiency in the automated translation. Thai youths will have access to more knowledge. |
