Sniffer to Break into Privacy? E-mail

Using sniffer is like being hacker.Last week, I heard news that Thai government was about to implement packet sniffer to the top of ISP's. Packet sniffer is a hardware or a software that collects packet (data traffic) for analyzing who is sending it in and out. The government said it must do this policy in order to deal with copyright violation and it refered to other countries that they commonly use. The news made people on social network opposed the government because they believed that:

  • The policy is not able to suppress copyright violation any far. Wrongdoers will surely conceal their data by encryption.
  • The government is going to break into allover citizen's privacy. It is going to sniff all web they surf, all e-mail they send, and all key they log in.
  • The government acts like confronting some national security issue rather than the creative reason but it does not tell directly. (We are facing the Red mob led by a political runaway and rumor about revolution.)
  • Corruption might have occured with expense extortion from ISP's and their users. The government might legislate to force implementation and get charge.

I am the one who oppose this government's concept. However, this policy is not promulgated yet. It is still in consideration through related organization. We will get the answer very soon. You can join Thailand No Sniffer group on Facebook if you agree with us.
