Last week, I heard news about spoof sell of explosive-detection devices. Many countries faced the trick to buy these wholly ineffective tools. They were dowsing rods, one or two antennas rotating freely in hand. Their manufacturer claimed that it worked without power source but with only static electricity. In fact, the static electricity can occur anywhere; the attennas would gyrate in all directions. In addition, the attennas can change direction because of the moment of inertia by the rotation of the holder. These reasons conclude that this tool cannot detect explosives at all. The result is just random. More than that, the manufacturer falsely created card system; it claimed that the card contained bomb detection program. BBC used to discrete a card and found nothing inside but alarm stents used in supermarkets.
Thailand government used to purchase this tool, GT200, several times for security reasons. After the truth was published, instead of being recognized that we were spoofed, a committee was newly set to test the performance of the machine. I did not know that the government would do such thing for. Why should not they cooperate with international organizations to bring our tax money back?
