About Thailand's Xmas E-mail

Merry ChristmasI heard that some farangs (the word calling the westerners) were arguing about whether Thai people have Christmas celebration in their families. Well. I, as a Thai, must say somewhat "yes" but they all do in the different way.

We generally know that the most of Thais are Buddhists; this major group just slightly borrows the culture from the westerners. Though they may decorate the Christmas trees or do parties or not, they do not strict among religions. (One says Thai people are able to celebrate every occasion.) Their parties in fact are only eating together, no singing Christmas songs. However, some Thais have faith in Christianity; they surely must commit worship and have the traditional celebration.

They also know that Santa Claus is a generous uncle distributing presents throughout the world but they do not know why he became significant. Businesses yet make the use of the festival for marketing, not actual celebration, as you have seen in several shopping malls.

Finally, it may not too late to say "Merry Christmas" to you.
